Class 1

  • Instructor : Dave Hull
  • Registration

  • Hand out course materials.

  • Students will learn how to use the Student Success Pages.  

  • Quick test of math skills.

  • Students will learn the phonetic alphabet. 

  • Students search for a call sign.

  • Assign Class 2 / Lesson 1 – All Things Electrical

    Homework:  As you proceed note anything that gives you trouble and bring it up at the start of the next class.

  • Read Chapter 1
  • Check your Math Skills by reading S1.1 to ?? in Appendix 1.
  • Read Chapter 2: View the Chapter 2 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 2 test.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 3. View the Chapter 3 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 3 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 4. View the Chapter 4 power point. Go online and do a Chapter 4 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material.

Class 2

  • Instructor : Bruce Harvey
  • Deal with any problems with Lesson 1. 

  • Various hands-on activities. 

  • Assign Class 3 / Lesson 2 – Waves, Bands, Propagation:  

    Homework: As you proceed note anything that gives you trouble and bring it up at the start of the next class.

  • Read Chapter 5:  View the Chapter 5 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 5 test.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 6. View the Chapter 6 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 6 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material.

Class 3

  • Instructor : Bruce Harvey
  • Deal with any problems with Lesson 2.   

  • Various hands-on activities. 

  • Assign Class 4 / Lesson 3Getting Your Signal Out Into The Aether: Transmission Lines & Antennas

  • Read Chapter 7:  View the Chapter 7 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 7 test.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 8. View the Chapter 8 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 8 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Have a look at Soldering Tips and Installing a PL-259 Connector in the Supplementary Materials.

Class 4

  • Deal with any problems with Lesson 3. 

  • Various hands-on activities. 

  • Assign Class 5 / Lesson 4 – Solid State and Its Applications

    Homework: As you proceed note anything that gives you trouble and bring it up at the start of the next class.

  • Read Chapter 9: View the Chapter 9 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 9 test.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material. There is far more in this chapter than you have to know; the quiz will give a sense of what is expected of you. 
  • Read Chapter 10. View the Chapter 10 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 10 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material. There is far more in this chapter than you have to know; the quiz will give a sense of what is expected of you. 

Class 5

  • Assign Class 6 / Lessons 5 – Getting On The Air.

  • Read Chapter 11: View the Chapter 11 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 11 test.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 12. No power point for this chapter.   Go online and do a Chapter 12 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material.

Class 6

  • Deal with any problems with Lesson 5. 

  • Various hands-on activities. 

  • Assign Class 7 / Lesson 6 – Transmitters and Receivers.

    Homework: As you proceed note anything that gives you trouble and bring it up at the start of the next class.

  • Read Chapters 13 and 14: View the Chapters 13 and 14 power point.  Go online and do Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 tests.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material.  Keep an eye out for the “what is connected to what” questions.

Class 7

  • Deal with any problems with Lesson 6. 

  • Various hands-on activities. 

  • Assign Class 8 / Lesson 7 – Staying Alive,  Not Annoying Your Neighbours, and  Rules of the Road

    Homework: As you proceed note anything that gives you trouble and bring it up at the start of the next class.

  • Read Chapter 15: View the Chapter 15 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 15 test.  Keeping testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 16. View the Chapter 16 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 6 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material.
  • Read Chapter 17. View the Chapter 17 power point.  Go online and do a Chapter 17 test.  Keep testing yourself until you have mastered the material
  • Go online and do lots of practice exams

Class 8

  • Instructor : Dave Hull & ?
  • Deal with any problems with Lesson 7. 
  • General review of anything causing concerns.
  • Assign Class 9 / Lesson 8 – General review preparing top write test next class

Class 9

  • Instructor : Bruce Harvey
  • Review last minute concerns. 
  • Write the exam.
